In brief

Car leasing is also available to private individuals, for both new and used cars. The monthly instalment is determined by the purchase price, the down payment, the term and the residual value. With closed-ended leasing, the car becomes yours at the end of the term; with open-ended leasing, you can choose. The exact APR and interest rate are always set by the finance provider’s individual assessment — our leasing calculator works out the estimated instalment in a few seconds.

If you want a premium car but don’t want to pay the full price in one go, car leasing is one of the most flexible solutions. In this guide, we explain how car leasing for private individuals works in 2026: what the conditions are, how much down payment you need, the difference between open-ended and closed-ended leasing, and how you can calculate your monthly instalment in advance.

What is car leasing, and how does it differ from a loan?

Leasing is a form of financing where the finance provider owns the vehicle during the term, while you use the car as its keeper and pay a monthly leasing fee. With a car loan, by contrast, the car becomes your property immediately, and the bank registers a lien on the vehicle.

In practice, leasing often offers a more flexible down payment, a predictable monthly fee and — for companies — a VAT advantage. For private individuals, closed-ended financial leasing is usually the most obvious choice, because the car automatically becomes your property at the end of the term.

Conditions: who can apply for car leasing as a private individual?

The conditions for car leasing vary slightly between finance providers, but the following apply almost everywhere:

  • an adult natural person with permanent residence in Slovakia;
  • verifiable, regular income (employment or self-employed income);
  • valid identity documents and address card;
  • no active negative status on the KHR (“BAR”) credit register;
  • the down payment is available (more on this below).

Can I lease a used car too?

Yes. Used car leasing is entirely standard — typically, the car’s age at the end of the term must remain within an upper limit (this varies by finance provider). With us, inspected premium cars imported from Germany can also be financed with leasing.

How much down payment do I need? Is there 0% down-payment car leasing?

The down payment usually ranges between 10% and 50% of the purchase price; the higher it is, the lower the monthly instalment. Car leasing with 0 down payment also exists, but in that case the full purchase price becomes the financed amount, which means a higher monthly fee and more interest overall. It’s best to tailor the arrangement to your own financial situation — we’re happy to help with that.

What affects the monthly instalment?

  • Purchase price — the starting point.
  • Down payment — whatever you pay up front doesn’t need to be financed.
  • Term — typically 24–84 months; a longer term = a lower instalment, but more total interest.
  • Residual value — an amount “deferred” to the end of the term, which reduces the monthly fee.
  • Interest rate and APR — the finance provider’s pricing, set during the credit assessment.

Calculate your monthly instalment with the leasing calculator

No need to guess. The partner leasing company will prepare an indicative instalment for you on request. We also explain the whole process on our financing and leasing page.

The calculator is a good approximation for your decision. The final APR and interest are always set by the individual assessment of the application — CarAdvance is not a financing company; on request a partner leasing company will contact you and we will guide you through the whole process.

How does leasing work with us? 4 steps

  1. Choosing a car. You choose a car that’s for sale or one you’d like us to import.
  2. Calculation. We use the calculator to look at the estimated instalment and choose the arrangement.
  3. Assessment. The finance partner carries out the credit assessment based on the documents submitted.
  4. Contract and handover. Once signed, the term begins and you can drive the car away.

FAQ

How long does it take to assess a leasing application?

Typically a few working days after the complete documentation has been received. The exact time is determined by the finance partner.

Can I repay early or close the lease sooner?

Usually yes, but the terms and any fees are set out in the leasing contract. It’s worth clarifying this before signing.

Is leasing in euros or in a foreign currency worth it?

Leasing in euros is open to everyone. Financing in a foreign currency only pays off for businesses with income in that currency.

Is insurance included in the leasing fee?

Compulsory motor insurance (KGFB) and comprehensive insurance (casco) are typically paid separately. If you’d like everything in one fee, also take a look at our article on long-term rental.
